Dell Studio XPS 16 Review:
So I bought the Dell Studio XPS 16 for college, and since I’m a gamer and don’t want to bring a desktop to school, I bought this laptop.With Intel 2 Duo T9800 (6MB cache/2.93GHz/1066Mhz FSB) ATI Mobility RADEON HD 4670 1GB, 500 GB of HardDrive space, and 16″ of FULL HD 1080×1920 RGBLED, how could I say no? Although this laptop was a bit pricey , I think it was well worth it.
I bought it through my school’s discount of 7%, which saved a lot of money. 
Some Cool Software:
I bought it with the 4 year complete accidental care + 4 years of lojack service. This is perfect for college, so if some idiot stumbles upon your laptop and manages to put his whole head through the RGBLED monitor, you’re covered. Any accidental spills, or any accidents is covered by Dell, and you’ll receive another laptop. It’s pretty awesome, and it’s perfect for 4 years of college.
Also, you don’t have to worry about your laptop being stolen because it comes with 4 Years of LOJACK, which is an anti-theft service that will work with the police to find your laptop, if ever lost. If you lost your laptop, or it was stolen you simply call the police, tell them that you have LOJACK on your system, and they’ll work with LOJACK to find the location of your laptop. The police have full knowledge of this program, and are fully cooperative with the system.
Also, it comes with FastAccess, which recognizes your face and logs you in the moment it recognizes you. If this laptop will be used as a family computer, you can set up FastAccess to recognize different faces and log them automatically into their example. This laptop also includes a backlit keyboard, which makes all the keys light up, so you can always see where the keys are.
When you buy from Dell, you also receive a FREE UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 7! All you do is after you recieve your system, you go to the Dell website and click on register for Windows 7 Upgrade. Once Windows 7 is Released, you’ll be able to receive a FREE copy.

My Thoughts:
If you’re going to buy this laptop, I suggest installing Windows 7 Beta 64 bit. The website includes instructions on how to install and burn Windows 7 onto a DVD.
Windows 7 installs all drivers automatically, I was REALLY excited when I reformatted with Windows 7 and found that all my drivers were installed instantly. I’m talking about my internet drivers and video card drivers. If you never reformatted a computer before, normally you need a CD with all the drivers on it, including internet drivers, before using your computer. Until you install drivers, certain hardware doesn’t work, including internet drivers and video card drivers. This was not the case, it installed them both automatically, and I was blown away. Not to mention that everything runs extremely smooth and fast on my new system and it’s compatible with the Adobe Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite – Perfect.
If you are planning on buying a laptop for college, I HIGHLY suggest this laptop. Especially if you’re into games with crazy graphics (I run Team Fortress 2 on max, Call of Duty 4 on max, Counter-Strike Source Max) you’ll love this computer. You can check out the benchmarks of the graphics card here. Not only does it have an awesome design, it’s powerful.
The RGBLCD monitor is crazy awesome. All the colors are super vibrant, and movies are actually enjoyable to watch on your laptop. RGBLED are not lit by fluorescent lights like the other laptops. It’s lit by RGB (Red Green Blue lights) that intensify the color of everything, making everything look awesome. Not to mention that ATI Mobility RADEON M96XT – 1GB is a beast and it’s purely awesome.

Conclusion
If you’re looking for an excellent computer, with an awesome and unbeatable warranty, then this laptop is perfect for you. It can do everything from video editing to gaming to spread sheets to movie watching and everything in between. Seriously, this laptop is top notch. The ATI Mobility RADEON M96XT – 1GB is pure awesomeness. The graphics on this laptop are WAY better than the one on most desktops. Highly recommend this laptop! Dell Studio XPS 16 AKA Dell Studio XPS 1640 is definitely worth getting.

A lot of people have been searching for the drivers on the graphics card, ATI Mobility RADEON M96XT – 1GB, I had a problem with the graphics card when I was using Vista. I never got it fixed, after 6 hours on the phone with Dell, so I decided to install Windows 7. It fixed everything. Windows 7 is the key to fixing the problem with the graphics card.

my gf is getting me it, its gonna arrive october 14th… but we dont have LOJACK option!! i want that!! and i didnt know about the university discount!! ughhh. so i guess the graphic suck on vista i have to use window 7? well i dont mind… i just hope it works with all the programs im gonna install
i have this laptop with a 2.66 ghz, 1gig video card and full hd edge to edge. and yes this computer is awesome, great for gaming, graphic design and basic school work. i get 32 frames per second on crysis warhead and 37 frames for resident evil 5 and both games on high. this laptop its great but you might want to buy a good cooler since this system overheats a lot when gaming. the video card it’s almost like an nvidia 9800gt for desktop… just slightly slower , but i love this laptop and not big and heavy like alienware!! so buy it!!
